INFORMATION ABOUT
ROCKY RIDGE HUNTING CLUB AND TRAINING KENNELS |
| The
Rocky Ridge Hunting Facility was founded in 1984 and is located five miles
north of Ft. Collins in a secluded un-developed area near Waverly. They
provide outdoor enthusiasts with five different private hunting areas to
experience quality hunting of Ring-necked Pheasants and Chukar Partridge,
October through March. The hunting trips can be guided, or self guided. The
unique hunting terrain, quality habitat, strong flying birds and individual
service are what have kept Rocky Ridge in business for over 17 years. "The
basis of our business is to provide hunting clients and their guests, a
private, quality hunt, five minutes from Ft. Collins, which saves time and
money". "It is like taking a trip, and never leaving the farm" Rocky Ridge
conducts two hunts a day. Morning and afternoon hunt times are available
seven days a week. Rocky Ridge hunting season starts October 1st and goes
through March 31st. Rocky Ridge hunting facility is not limited by the
season or daily bag limit of pheasants or chukar. " We are allowed to hunt
outside the regular Colorado State hunting season due to our special
licensing by the Colorado Division of Wildlife". A lot of our guests use
the Rocky Ridge hunting facility for client entertainment, dog training and
exercise, as well as personal enjoyment. The convenience of hunting before
or after work is very attractive. The ability to take a dog or a friend out
to a quality hunting area, find birds repetitively and enjoy the solitude of
your own hunting area is unique along the front range.
For dog training,
the experience provided for a young dog to get on the scent of a bird and
learn tracking is a very important lesson. "The experience created for a
young dog, to have repetition of bird after bird, will be what makes a good
dog a great dog in later years". Rocky Ridge also provides hunting dog
training. "We take any hunting breed, 4 to 6 months old or older and do our
best to get it ready for the field. " It is always best to start with
quality genetics and breeding". "If the dog has what it takes, we can bring
out the best in them using positive reinforcement". Within three months, we
can take an inexperienced pup and end up with a well-trained, obedient,
field companion. Of course, not all the birds are harvested during a hunt. A
percentage of the birds released, elude the dog and hunter. Once they are in
the wild they are subject to nature and its forces. Potentially to be eaten
by a predator. "Our Clients are true conservationists and by indirectly
restocking the area with pheasants, and with the quality habitat, the area
becomes alive with many different wildlife species for viewing by our
guests".
